About Buick
Since its founding in 1903, Buick has stood as one of the most iconic American automotive brands, with its renowned Tri-Shield emblem recognized around the world. As a cornerstone brand of General Motors, Buick has long served as a technological pioneer and trendsetter, helping drive the advancement of the American and global automotive industries while setting benchmarks that many other automakers have followed.
In 1997, the establishment of SAIC-GM marked the beginning of Buick’s ambitious journey in China. From the rollout of the first domestically produced Buick model in December 1998, to annual sales in China surpassing one million units in 2015, and cumulative sales exceeding 10 million units by September 2018, Buick has spent the past 28 years deeply cultivating the premium mainstream market. By aligning its brand philosophy with evolving consumer expectations, Buick has built a reputation for delivering a “premium-above-its-class” ownership experience. Today, the brand offers one of the most comprehensive product portfolios in China’s automotive market, spanning mid-size and premium SUVs, sedans, luxury MPVs, and new energy vehicles across a wide range of segments.
In 2022, Buick entered a pivotal year of comprehensive transformation. On June 1, the brand unveiled its new global identity and introduced two landmark models: the all-new flagship MPV Buick Century and the Electra-X, Buick’s first Ultium-based pure electric SUV concept. Buick also announced its brand renewal strategy, outlining plans to launch more than 10 all-new models by 2025 across mainstream new energy segments including MPVs, SUVs, and sedans. At the same time, Buick expanded its powertrain roadmap to offer diversified mobility solutions, including battery electric, plug-in hybrid, full hybrid, mild hybrid, and intelligent internal combustion technologies.
In 2023, Buick accelerated its comprehensive renewal strategy centered around “New Image, New Products, New Design, New Technology, and New Experience.” The brand launched two Ultium-platform electric vehicles: the Buick Electra E5, a large five-seat pure electric SUV, and the Buick Electra E4, a pure electric sport coupe SUV. Among them, the E5 quickly ranked among the best-selling mid-to-large pure electric SUVs in China. Around its Ultium EV lineup, Buick also introduced a new-energy retail and service ecosystem, including dedicated Buick EV Spaces in prime commercial districts across major cities, alongside the “Blue Key Carefree” service program, further strengthening Buick’s position as a leading joint-venture EV brand in China.
In 2024, Buick continued its brand transformation with the launch of the segment-leading GL8 PHEV, supported by the promotion of existing products such as the E5 and V6. Meanwhile, the all-new LaCrosse and next-generation Envision family further advanced Buick’s intelligent cockpit and driver assistance technologies, enabling the simultaneous rollout of smart technologies across both electric and gasoline-powered vehicles. This reinforced Buick’s market positioning around the concept of “Intelligence Across Both EV and ICE.” Through a more modern, premium, and technology-oriented brand identity, Buick continued adapting to rapidly evolving market demands. At present, Buick is accelerating the rollout of locally developed plug-in hybrid models covering all major body styles, while leveraging localized strategies to elevate its smart cockpit systems and achieve full-scenario intelligent driving capabilities, moving the brand firmly into the industry’s leading tier and driving its comprehensive transformation toward electrification, intelligence, and premiumization.
In 2025, Buick introduced its premium new energy sub-brand “Zijing,” alongside the debut of the Xiaoyao Super Integrated Architecture. With 100% local definition authority over product development, the platform supports full compatibility across three body styles, three powertrain forms, and three drivetrain configurations, enabling highly efficient development of battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and extended-range new energy vehicles. Buick also launched the Zhenlong Plug-in Hybrid Pro system and a 900V ultra-fast charging platform, significantly improving charging efficiency and energy replenishment performance to rival industry leaders. The Zijing lineup subsequently introduced the Zijing L7 luxury new energy sedan and Villa-class luxury flagship MPV, the Zhijing Shijia. Both models featured a next-generation intelligent cockpit powered by Qualcomm’s high-performance 8775 chipset and AI large-model interaction capabilities, while advanced driving assistance systems fully adopted Momenta R6 L2++ technology with comprehensive highway and urban NOA coverage. Buick’s annual new energy penetration rate exceeded 20%, placing the brand at the forefront of joint-venture new energy transformation in China.
In 2026, Buick further solidified the maturity of the Zijing brand through a fully developed product matrix, continued technological advancement, and strong market penetration, becoming the only joint-venture automotive brand to achieve comprehensive coverage across the premium new energy landscape. During Auto China Beijing, Buick launched the Zijing E7 luxury new energy SUV. Coinciding with the first anniversary of the Zijing brand, Buick officially established a complete premium product lineup consisting of the Zijing Shijia flagship MPV, the Zijing E7 five-seat SUV, and the Zijing L7 luxury sedan, covering the mainstream premium price range from RMB 200,000 to over RMB 400,000. Buick also reaffirmed its ambition to establish benchmark “premium comfort” standards in every major new energy segment. At the same time, the brand introduced the Zijing Mobile Space Intelligence concept, redefining future mobility from the perspective of living space. With this, the Zijing brand entered its fully realized phase, marking a new chapter in Buick’s intelligent electrification transformation.
