Shanghai (September 21, 2019) – Major champions Jeongeun Lee6 and Brooke Henderson confirmed they will tee it up at the second staging of the Buick LPGA Shanghai at Shanghai Qizhong Garden Golf Club from 17 – 20 October 2019.
South Korea’s Lee6, who is currently No. 5 on the Rolex Rankings and goes by the nickname of ‘Lucky 6’, is set to win the coveted LPGA ‘Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year’ award with five top five finishes in 2019 already as well as her breakthrough major victory. The 23-year-old previously captured the KLPGA money list title in 2017 and 2018, having won on six occasions. She heads to China for her debut appearance in the Buick LPGA Shanghai.
Canada’s Henderson, who is already playing in her fifth LPGA season despite only being 21-years-old, captured her maiden major in 2016 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and is set to make her second appearance in Shanghai following a 26
th place finish last year. The Canadian star, who recently surpassed the record for the most LPGA victories by a Canadian (9) is a two-time winner this year and currently sits at Rolex Ranking No. 8.
The pair are the latest stars to join the all-star field, which already includes China’s first major-winning golfer Shanshan Feng and American star Danielle Kang, who won the title last season.
Speaking about the announcement, Jeongeun Lee6 said, “I am extremely proud of my season so far and I am excited to play in China for the first time. This is my first full season on the LPGA Tour and I am enjoying playing all over the world and seeing new places. I cannot wait to see the Shanghai skyline and enjoy all that this famous city has to offer. I am really looking forward to playing in the Buick LPGA Shanghai!”
Brooke Henderson, said, “I really enjoyed experiencing everything that China had to offer last year, and I am pleased to return for my second appearance in the Buick LPGA Shanghai. I loved exploring the Bund, and I am looking forward to seeing it again this time around. Hopefully I can challenge for the title come Sunday.”
